Social Services

Social services are provided by Brighton and Hove City Council. The Council aims to provide caring services for communities and vulnerable people in Brighton & Hove so they can have more independence and control over their lives.

Care homes are registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission. The Care Choices website provides information about available care options. You are able to view online Care Services Directories and Care Select magazine, the national guide to self funding care. If you are choosing a care home Care Finder may help you find the care that you need.

Home care also known as Domiciliary Care is registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission. Brighton and Hove City Council commissions independent regulated organisations to provide home care as well as providing some services itself. Those services that are commissioned are known as Approved Providers. In addition to approved providers there are a number of other home care providers in the city. Details of all providers are available on the Care Quality Commission website.

Personalisation means thinking about public services and social care in an entirely different way – starting with the person and their individual circumstances rather than the service. Personalisation is about a change in culture and attitudes towards care provision. For example, the Support With Confidence project which provides a register of approved personal assistants to support people who require care.

Alcohol & drug (substance misuse) and Mental Health services for adults and older people in Brighton & Hove are the responsibility of the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.  The Trust works in partnership with people who use their services, its staff, NHS and social care agencies and the voluntary sector.
